On Sunday, September 20th 11:00-3:00, the Friends of Bedford Depot Park will host their fourth annual “Railroad Day” event. Free activities for adults and families are planned in and around the Freight House & Railcar Museum.

Activities will include:

  • guided tours with Minuteman Railroad author Bill Deen

  • story time in the railcar with “Conductor Henry” at 11:30

  • the sleight-of-hand of “Magic Railroad Conductor” Dick Miller & assistant Dawn Kelley at 1:00

  • crafts, a scavenger hunt and other activities for children ongoing from 11:00 to 3:00.

Did you know that Bedford was the home of the country’s first 2-foot narrow gauge railroad? Learn about our town’s interesting “railroad century” in the Freight House, with its 13 ½-foot diorama of the Bedford rail yard c. 1955, an operating model of a narrow gauge steam locomotive, and other displays.

Peruse updated exhibits in the vintage B&M railcar, where experts will be on hand to share their knowledge. Sit in the passenger seats and listen to actual sounds of an RDC (Rail Diesel Car), complete with the Lexington Branch’s last conductor announcing the stops.
